36 - Part-time

May 15, 2010

I can’t believe it’s been a month since I’ve last updated. I am so, so sorry. This should clear things up for you, though.

For those of you who don’t read Allan (all, like… two of you), or at least don’t read his author’s notes, he mentioned that we’ve been looking for his job, which affected his motivation to do anything. I’m in the same boat. Every application I turn in is just another phone call I’m not going to get, yet all I’ve wanted to do for the past month is apply for jobs with the hope that ONE will call me back. It’s heartbreaking, really, because I desperately want to move out of his parents’ house and into our own apartment. Thus, a part-time gig isn’t going to do it for me.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m grateful that I found a job. It’s at Maggie Moo’s, one of which my mom owned for a short period (she has a more successful Marble Slab) and that I managed for a few months, so I already know how to do everything. I’ve been keeping in touch with the owner of this store for a few months now, and finally I called her back after leaving her a note and not getting a response. She told me to come in for an interview the next day, and I got the job! Wooo! There’s a Starbucks down the street that is apparently hiring, and a few other places around that I’m going to check out on Monday, so hopefully I can get a job in the same area… which would be ideal because Maggie Moo’s is about an hour away from where we currently stay… ugh. I need to know where I’ll be working more often so we can move closer and etc etc.

Anyway, sorry again for the lateness. I’d say I’m going to try to update more, but unfortunately I’m still pretty stressed out so I can’t promise anything. I have an idea for the next comic, though, so I guess that’s a start?

Hang in there, Amanda. I’m in the same boat - tons of interviews, no jobs. :)

BTW, is Allan going back to college next semester? Have you finished your degree already?

Don’t fret! Every job offer I’ve gotten has been swiftly followed by another, better one, and I’ve done this three times now. The same just worked out for my mother as well. Just keep looking around for the jobs, and something will come up. Always good to see another update from you, and I hope things work out.

Hey, seeing the two comments above mine kind of made me want to comment. I wonder how many users read your comics and think hey, this is just purely entertainment.

I just wanted to say I think what you’re doing is great. I mean, you’re showing us your life, and right now, it just appears to be really stressful. I appreciate that even with everything going on right now, you still manage to find time to update. And I really hope that the job hunt goes well, because finding a job is a really shitty process, one that I know I’ll be doing shortly when summer starts again.

The point is, I’m sorry life sucks, and it’ll get better. I hope it’s sooner than later.

hey amanda i know how you and allan feel with trying to find a job. i’ve been jobless for 2 months now because the store i worked at was sold to another store and they had the bright idea on not hiring us all back. effing people.

Well, at least it’s a small somethin’ to give you a little pocket change to get you through a few weeks, hopefully something else will come along. c: Just keep sending in an unlimited amount of applications, to anywhere and everywhere. But maybe you’ll get the job at Starbucks; i’ve worked there for about 8 months now, and I still absolutely love it. The trick is to keep your head up and keep thinking to yourself ‘The next one will be sure to get a call back’. Heh, it’s hard to do, I know, but everything will all come together in the end. 8D
